The Top 3 Video Mistakes Real Estate Professionals Are Making On Instagram…and How to Fix Them
If your video content isn’t converting or driving engagement, there are 3 common mistakes people make with their Instagram videos BUT the good news is that there’s an easy fix for each.
Mistake #1: Neglecting the Power of Stories and Reels
One big mistake many realtors make on Instagram is forgetting that stories and reels should work in together, each serving a distinct purpose. Stories are your unfiltered connection hub, where you engage with your existing community—the people who already know, like, and trust you. Stories are where you can build relationships with your community and document your day. “Document, don't create.” - Gary V
On the flip side, Reels are the tool to help reach a broader audience. They are permanent, targeted, and designed to bring in new followers interested in your expertise. Reels are seen by both your community of followers (nurture) & will be served to those who don’t yet follow you yet!
The key is to use both strategically
Stories are an incredible format to grow familiarity and build trust and therefore offer more opportunities for conversions. It’s not a question of using one or the other it’s knowing when to use each one for what goals.
Mistake #2: Overlooking the Power of Repetition
Don’t shy away from sharing the same message repeatedly — it's a savvy strategy! If the thought of generating fresh ideas daily has you feeling overwhelmed, take a cue from your own grid. Scroll back 6 months or a year and revisit your past posts.
If you haven't repurposed that content into a reel or video, now's the time. Recreate a Reel to a carousel or a multi-image graphic post (or vice-versa) to reach new audiences. Remember, some prefer watching, while others prefer reading.
Mistake #3: Neglecting a Sound-Off Environment
Did you know that most Instagram users watch videos with the sound off?! This is why it’s so important to add closed captioning to your videos. This not only makes your content accessible to the hard-of-hearing and deaf communities but also enhances overall watch time and engagement. Ensuring your content can be consumed without sound broadens your reach and inclusivity.
I recently turned OFF my captions as a viewer and was surprised at the volume of Reels that were still not including closed captions.
While Instagram videos are a powerful tool, there are some nuances to it for you to see growth. By avoiding these common mistakes and embracing a combined strategy for stories and reels, leveraging content repetition smartly, and ensuring accessibility with closed captioning, you can supercharge your Instagram presence.
