HOW TO BUILD A HEALTHIER AND MORE PROFITABLE RELATIONSHIP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA IN 2024
I came up with this acronym for an upcoming keynote because I think it’s important to tackle these limiting beliefs so that you can step into the business owner you’re meant to be and share with others.
Plus acronyms make things so much easier to understand and digest.
If you want a better relationship with Instagram and social media in 2024, you’ll need to focus on letting go of F.E.A.R.
Here’s what F.E.A.R. looks like for many realtors and business professionals ⤵
Frenzied by trying to keep up with showing up on numerous platforms, updates, and trends on social media.
Exposed because you’re trying to balance being credible and wanting to show up as a human without getting too personal or being too vulnerable.
Awkward feeling when it comes time to record videos because you feel misaligned or unsure about your messaging. Being scripted is unnatural.
Resentful because you feel the pressure all around you to constantly create content, post on all of the platforms, and share what you’re doing during the day which is leaving you feeling burnt out.
When you’re feeling frenzied, switch your focus.
Choose one platform and stick with it, you do not need to have an account on every new app that comes out.
I’ve found that the more overwhelmed I am with the thought of needing to create content, the more I want to disconnect completely and that’s when I decide to not consume and shift my focus on engagement.
By being intentional about sending DMs to 10 specific people, I am able to build relationships and even get inspired by the conversation to make new content. It’s a win-win!
Remember your most impactful content is your conversations.
To combat feeling exposed, make your own rules.
Being vulnerable on social media does not mean that you have to divulge all of your secrets and struggles.
You can decide how much or how little you want to share. I would encourage you to share some personal content about things you love, something you’ve overcome, a big ah-ha moment, or your origin story.
I would also encourage you to show more of your face on video and talk to the camera unscripted so that your followers can begin to know you even more and build trust.
Switch awkwardness into authenticity.
I know that the word authenticity gets thrown around a lot online but here’s what I mean in this context.
When you are trying to record a video with a script or speaking about something unnatural to you, that could be a huge reason why it feels awkward to you.
And if you struggle with camera confidence, listen to this podcast episode where I give you a ton of tips to help give you a boost.
Turn resentment into relatability.
Trying to show up on multiple platforms while serving your clients is going to put you on the fast track to burn out and make you resentful that you can’t keep up.
Instead of trying to be visible everywhere, get strategic about how you show up on your favorite platform.
Focus on context.
Context is the “uncopy pasteables” of you. Some of the “uncopy pasteables” are your face, your voice, humor, quirks, stories, character etc. These are things that no one else can duplicate.
Context is what helps you connect someone’s head and heart to your content which in turn builds trust.
By practicing these exercises, you’ll find that it gets easier and easier to create content, connect with your followers and get excited about showing up on social.
Which of these tips will you put into practice this week?
